Ages 6
to 24 months
These lessons are designed
for beginning swimmers with a parent in the pool.
The goal is to teach the child to move from
one point to another on their own buoyancy level
underwater and using their arms and legs as the
method of propulsion.
This program is a nurturing approach
to water safety and is much less stressful on the
child than other programs. This program has a parent
or guardian in the water with the child and is
designed to instill basic survival skills to
increase the likelihood that the child will respond
to an accidental immersion in a swimming pool. They
are taught to float on their backs, “reach and pull”
with their faces in the water, and to hold onto the
side of the pool until help arrives. Older children
will be able to pull themselves out of the pool.
